Stretcher carry (Wasdale MRT) The Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association is the umbrella body for mountain rescue teams in Cumbria (UK).

  • Covers the Lake District and Cumbria
  • 12 member teams
  • A registered charity solely funded by voluntary contributions

Teams are largely autonomous, but LDSAMRA coordinates the development of operational matters such as radio communications and insurance, as well as the day to day running of an efficient, voluntary rescue service. It also distributes to the teams any donations or legacies received and makes special allowances for major projects such as building extensions.

How to stay safe and enjoy the fells LDSAMRA in conjunction with Cicerone are pleased to announce our new 'How to Stay Safe and Enjoy the Fells' leaflet, which will soon be available throughout the Lake District. The leaflet is intended to help people make the right choices before going into the hills and provide information for what to do in the event of an accident. It will be available in numerous outlets throughout Cumbria and the Lake District and would be a very helpful addition to anyone's rucksack when they head into the fells. LDSAMRA is looking to continue the partnership with Cicerone for future publications with an aim to reducing casualty numbers through free and available mountain safety information.

Mountain safety videoThere has been a significant increase in the number of callouts involving walkers who have ventured onto the Lakeland fells ill prepared, ill equipped, and lacking experience.

Cumbria Tourism has supported the Lake District teams by helping to produce a 6 minute video which highlights these mountain safety issues. You can view the film by clicking the video image, or going to YouTube.
